Alice in Wonderland: A Trateu Piece

Curiouser and Curiouser…

What if instead of riddles and rhymes, the Caterpillar spoke only through old comedy standup bits, or if the Mad Hatter’s“A Very Unhappy Birthday” was swapped out with Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles”? What if all of this occurs in a 10ft circular platform made of hula hoops? This is a brand new look at Lewis Carroll’s classic tale, that turns an already backward world around again. This 15 min treteau* show is a whirlwind of fun and excitement and is a new and hilarious take on Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

*Treteau or Platform theatre is the use of a reduced space, such as a small platform or a taped-out map on the floor, instead of a large stage to create a piece of theatre. Actors are not allowed to exit the treteau space and must continue the story through the use of physical and vocal storytelling. Movement pieces such as these require the actors to shape-shift and change their bodies to create different characters, settings, and soundscapes that help build the narrative’s world.
